Jessica Lemus Named Park Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Fort Smith Public Schools has recognized Kindergarten teacher Jessica Lemus as the Park Elementary Teacher of the Year, celebrating her unwavering dedication to student success and her commitment to continuous growth.

Ms. Lemus is known for always putting her students’ needs first, taking the time to build strong relationships with each of them. “She begins the school year by getting to know her students on a personal level, ensuring that each lesson is tailored to meet their individual needs,” a school leader shared. Whether it’s through small group work or one-on-one attention, Ms. Lemus ensures that her students receive the support they need to succeed academically.

Ms. Lemus inspires a love of learning among her students. Her classroom is a dynamic space where students are always engaged and eager to demonstrate their learning. During carpet time, students share their learning aloud and are always loud and proud for the teacher to hear, showing their growth and confidence. Her students know that no matter their backgrounds and abilities, she always celebrates their learning.

Ms. Lemus holds herself to high standards, and these expectations filter down to her students. “She is constantly pushing her students to be better than they were the day before,” a colleague noted. Through data analysis and targeted small-group instruction, she ensures every child reaches their full potential. Her classroom is not only academically rigorous but also socially responsible, with students holding each other accountable for their behavior.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Lemus goes above and beyond. She actively participates in Park's PTA, organizing over six fundraisers this school year. Her contributions extend to various school committees, including the building coalition team, textbook adoption, and the PPC committee. She has served as a mentor to other teachers and interns, further demonstrating her leadership and dedication to the success of others.

Her commitment to her students, colleagues, and community makes her a model educator at Park Elementary.
